Description for Item # 145127534

MFR: Springfield Armory: M-1 Garand “D”. Serial Number: 3871857. Description: Good Condition – See Pix. Add'l pix available on request. I am not an M-1D expert. I know what I think it is, but if you have questions or add’l info, please email. Rifle appears to be a DCM re-work, or possibly a Danish M-1D re-pat. Main problem with rifle is bolt closes on “No-Go” gauge. Rifle fires without any unusual markings on cases. Re-barrel or just add to your collection as is. M84 scope (serial No. 1342) is Danish marked (Crown over “FKF” over “nr 1774760.”). There are a couple marks (blemishes?) when looking through the scope. They look like small water droplets, but they are not. I do know how else to describe them and I cannot take a pix of them. Otherwise the scope is clear. Metal looks good - though finish on the receiver is worn, turning dark and does not match the finish on the rest of the rifle (which is very good). No rust or pitting on the rifle. BBL is marked “S-A-7-51” with two P proof marks. Bore is shiny, lands and grooves look sharp. Cheek pad is marked “MRT” over “11-62”. Cheek pad has been removed (to see what was under it) and will require new leather strapping to re-install. Cheek pad was also attached to stock using two brass screws (see pix) Sling is marked “MRT”. Stock is WWII rework with “SA” over “GHS” in a square with crossed cannons to the right of this marking. These markings have been refinished. Under the pad, the stock is marked “S.A.” in a square. These markings are clear and have not even been stained over. There are two “P” proof marks on pistol grip, one refinished and one not. The un-refinished “P” and the un-stained “SA” under the cheek piece leads me to believe the stock re-finish was done at DCM or by an arsenal as these markings are very clear and deep. Rifle is sold with a 10 day inspection. Delivery, description of condition and pix are guaranteed. However, as above, I am not an expert on M-1Ds. I have described all I know about the rifle and do not guarantee it’s history. Purchaser must rely on their knowledge to establish bonafides of this rifle. I will answer all questions to the best of my ability. We are a full line gun shop located in Newberry, FL. WE SHIP TO FFL HOLDERS ONLY. Florida residents must add.0675% Florida Sales tax. Payment in CC, MO, or personal check OK. Personal check requires two weeks to clear.
[Information added 08/24/2009 11:44:09 AM]
I am posting add'l info on this rifle gleaned through contacts and questions from individuals regards this auction. On the top of the bbl under the wood, the bbl is marked "D7312555" and "41" (I think it is a "4" - it may be an "A" with the lower left side struck lightly) and "MD22-". The only numbers on the side of bbl are "S-A-7-51". The books I have on the M-1D say that many were made with bbl dates of 51 to 53. One of the things that make me think it is original is the "SA" stamp under the cheekpiece - something specifically referred to in my readings and contacts on this auction. My reference for this is "Collecting the Garand II" by J.C. Harrison - second printing (revised) Feb 2003. Based on the drawing number on the bbl and other info I have received, I am more certain that this is an original M-1D - though probably a Danish re-pat sold thru DCM. Any other thoughts or info would be appreciated.
